Abstract

The British Library aims to use digital and network technology to achieve quick and easy access to the collections. The bridge between the strategy and its implementation is founded on the Initiatives for Access programme. Describes the primary Initiatives for Access programme currently under development: the British Library OPAC on JANET; the Patent Jukebox; the Electronic Beowulf; Portico; image digitization for document supply; digitization on the Treasures of the British Library; evaluation of neural networks for optical character recognition; and digitization of popular microfilm
