Abstract

In Dec 1996, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) considered several treaties on copyright. The one treaty that failed to pass muster concerned the protection of databases. Consequently the US Copyright Office has prepared a report on the legal protection of databases: a condensation of this report is given: The primary issues under current discussion are whether additional protection is needed, alternative models which this might take, and the duration of protection.
