Abstract

Discusses the role of the main entry in cataloguing, examining the arguments for its retention and abandonment. Main and added entries should be eliminated from future versions of AACR and replaced by access points. The main entry is a concept of the manual environment which now seems obsolete in the automated catalogue. There needs to be a consensus for an exact definition of access points
