Abstract

Discusses how librarians can transfer into the digital world all the aids to accessing information which have been developed for use with huge physical collections. Reviews tools and applications built on the use of SGML, including the Berkeley Finding Aid Project, relevance research, browsers such as DynaText and SoftQuad, the Lector interface, and the potential of the hypertext authoring environment, storyspace. Also lists the assumptions implicit in deciding what to digitize and stresses the crucial factors of user expectations
