Abstract

Gesprochene Sprache hat nicht notwendig etwas mit Hören und mit dem Aussprechen von Vokalen und Konsonanten zu tun. Auf welche Weise gesprochene Wörter im Gegenteil eine ganz eigenständige, neue Aussagekraft erhalten können, wenn der Prozess des Sprechens mit Bleistift und Papier dokumentiert wird, zeigt das Werk des amerikanischen Künstlers Joseph Grigely. Seit er mit elf Jahren das Gehör verlor, hat Grigely sich für eine eigenwillige Methode der Verständigung mit seiner Umwelt entschieden: Er selbst spricht zu seinen Gesprächspartnern, während diese das, was sie ihm sagen wollen, während des Sprechens auf Notizzettel aufschreiben. Die auf diese Weise entstehenden Gesprächslandkarten, die angesiedelt sind im Dazwischen von geschriebener und gesprochener Sprache, sind faszinierende, poetische und höchst lebendige Zeugnisse für die Erkundung des Raums zwischen Kunst und Wissenschaft
