Das Thüringer Patentnetz hat das Ziel, durch die konsequente Realisierung der Dienstleistungskette Informieren - Beraten - Fördern - Patentieren - Verwerten die Patentergiebigkeit zu intensivieren. Dabei werden die Informationsleistungen, insbesondere die Internetleistungen - die Patentdatenbanken und der Patentvolltext-Lieferdienst - sowohl den Hochschulen als auch der Industrie zur Verfügung gestellt. Ca. 1000 Unternehmen nutzen vor allem die Internetleistungen das PATON der TU Ilmenau, um einen Wettbewerbsvorsprung zu erzielen. Der Industrie stehen die Patentdatenbanken GlobalPat (weltweit), PAE (Europa), DE-T2 (Deutsche Übersetzungen von europäischen Patentschriften), PAU (USA), PAJ (Japan) und PAR (Russland) zur Verfügung, die mit dem Patentvolltext-Lieferdienst PATONline verknüpft sind
