Abstract

Dieser Beitrag befasst sich mit der Spezifik virtueller sozialer Gemeinschaften, die in unserer Welt eine zunehmend größere Bedeutung erhalten. Dabei wird nicht von einem Ersatz der bestehenden "realen" sozialen Netzwerke/Beziehungen ausgegangen, sondern die diese komplementierenden virtuellen Gemeinschaften sollen in ihren Möglichkeiten und Grenzen diskutiert werden. Anhand von bestehenden, sich ständig weiterentwickelnden Gemeinschaften wird exemplarisch die Rolle der virtuellen Kommunikation für einen Diskurs im Sinne von "doing culture" betrachtet. Virtuelle soziale Gemeinschaften bieten für die Wissenschaft noch zu erschließende Formen und Perspektiven: Räume für interkulturelle sowie weniger hierarchisch strukturierte Diskurse. Abschließend wird die konkrete Realisierungsmöglichkeit dieses Anspruchs u.a. am Beispiel von Online-Instituten vorgestellt werden
