Abstract
Dieses Lexikon dokumentiert kritikwürdige Wörter und Formulierungen, die bei der exemplarischen Wahl einiger weniger aktueller Jahres-Unwörter seit 1991 nicht zum Zuge kommen konnten. Und es sind auch schon lange vor der Unwort-Aktion immer wieder einzelne Wörter und Wendungen gebraucht worden, die besser nicht ins öffentliche Sprachleben gelangt wären. Der Missbrauch der Sprache mit dem Ziel, Menschen hinters Licht zu führen oder zu verletzen, lässt sich im Rahmen der deutschen Sprachgeschichte weit zurückverfolgen. Der Autor hat sich bei der Auswahl der Stichwörter vorgestellt, welche Wörter oder Formuherungen in früheren Zeiten hätten kritisiert werden müssen, wenn es die Unwort-Aktion schon vor 1991 gegeben hätte. Manches davon ist inzwischen historisch geworden und hat seine Aktualität verloren. Aber es hat zu seiner Zeit die öffentliche Kommunikation, das Denken und Handeln gleichfalls belastet und nicht selten sogar extrem negativ beeinflusst. Die hier vorgestellten Unwörter entstammen weit überwiegend dem 20. Jahrhundert. Das könnte den Eindruck erwecken, es ginge mit der Sprache immer schneller bergab. Diesem Vorurteil sollte man als Sprachkritiker auf keinen Fall erliegen. Denn immer noch können die meisten Äußerungen als sachlich angemessen, ehrlich und menschenfreundlich bewertet werden. Dass die Menschen in früheren Jahrhunderten sprachlich keineswegs rücksichtsvoller miteinander umgegangen sind, dass sogar manches, was man für aktuell halten möchte, schon sehr viel älteren Ursprungs ist, können einzelne Belege bezeugen, die teilweise sehr weit vor 1900 datiert werden müssen.
