Abstract

Am 1. Juli 2004 nahm der Bibliotheksverbund Bayern ein neues Verbundsystem auf Basis von Aleph 500 in Betrieb. Er verabschiedete sich damit von der rund zwanzig Jahre alten Eigenentwicklung BVB-KAT und setzt fortan auf ein Standardprodukt, das bereits bei anderen Verbünden im Einsatz ist. Die durch die bisherige Insellösung bedingte Isolierung war das Hauptmotiv des Wechsels; auch war die Weiterentwicklung des Mainframe-Systems BVB-KAT zunehmend an Grenzen gestoßen. Mit dem Entschluss, ein neues Verbundsystem einzuführen, wurde zugleich das bisherige Verbundmodell auf den Prüfstand gehoben.
