Abstract

Die Rahmenbedingungen Die Leistungsfähigkeit von Bibliotheken wird heute nicht mehr nur an ihrem Bestand an Medieneinheiten gemessen ("Tonnenmentalität"), sondern an ihrer Funktion als Portal ins weltweite Informationsnetzwerk. Was mehr und mehr zählt, sind die weit über die physisch vorhandenen Medien hinausreichenden Zugangsmöglichkeiten zu Nachweisdatenbanken, elektronischen Volltexten und digitalen Informationen im Netz, die die Bibliothek ihren Kunden eröffnet. Elektronische Medien müssen jedoch nicht nur in die traditionelle Organisationsstruktur - Erwerbung, Katalogisierung, Bereitstellung - integriert werden, sondern auch in das Dienstleistungsprofil der Bibliotheken. Hier ist es der UB Freiburg gelungen, das Produkt "Elektronische Fachinformation" optimal auf dem Markt zu platzieren. Kundenorientiert und von den Vorteilen der neuen Medien überzeugt, hat die Bibliotheksleitung die Informationsvermittlung vorangetrieben und die nötigen personellen, räumlichen und technischen Ressourcen bereitgestellt. Dank der Aktivitäten der Fachreferentinnen sind die Dienstleistungen der UB ständig in der Universität präsent. Spezielle Marketingmaßnahmen - wie die "Roadshow" - machen Studierende und Wissenschaftler auf das breite Angebot an elektronischen Medien aufmerksam und eigens entwickelte Online-Materialien und Tools unterstützen die Nutzer bei ihrer wissenschaftlichen Arbeit. Die umfangreichen Informationsdienstleistungen und Schulungsaktivitäten der UB werden im sog. "Lern- und Kompetenzzentrum" gebündelt.
