Abstract

WorldCat internationaler Verbundkatalog von 9.000 Bibliotheken in den USA und 80 anderen Ländern, ist mit über 62 Millionen Titeln eine der größten bibliographischen Datenbanken der Welt. Sein Datenpool umfasst Titel aller Sprachen, aller Inhalte und Veröffentlichungsformen der letzten 500 Jahre und weiter zurück bis in babylonische Zeit. WorldCat ist jedoch nicht nur Verbundkatalog, sondern integriert zunehmend Buchhandelsdaten und Elemente der Biblio-graphie. Das äußerst komfortable First Search-Recherchesystem macht ihn zu einem global einsetzbaren bibliographischen Universalsystem. Recherchebeispiele im Text gehen speziell auch auf deutsche Suchaspekte ein und demonstrieren, wie diese in erfolgreiche WorldCat-Recherchen umgesetzt werden können.
