Abstract
In Musikbibliotheken bilden üblicherweise die Sammlungen der Musikdruckwerke den größten Teil des gesamten Medienbestands. In der Universitätsbibliothek der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz (im Folgenden "UBKUG" genannt) entfielen rd. 37% des im Onlinekatalog Anfang März 2007 nachgewiesenen Bestands auf die Mediengruppe der Notendrucke (Bücher machten etwa 27%, Tonträger 7% des Bestands aus). Ähnlich verhielt es sich bei der Benützung dieser Bestände durch Entlehnung: 59% der entlehnten Werke entstammten im Jahr 2006 der Mediengruppe der Notendrucke, 31 % der Mediengruppe der Bücher. Die Autor- und Titelsuche von bibliographischen Nachweisen und Bestandsdaten dieser Musikalien in Onlinekatalogen und anderen bibliographischen Datenbanken ist aber mit erheblichen Schwierigkeiten verbunden. Wie problematisch diese Suchen teilweise sein können, wird den Musikbibliothekarinnen und -bibliothekaren immer dann besonders deutlich, wenn sie selbst erfolglos im eigenen Onlinekatalog nach einem Titel recherchieren, vom dem sie etwa aus dem Gedächtnis wissen, dass ein entsprechendes Exemplar in der Bibliothek vorhanden ist. Die Folgen dieses Misserfolges sind aber noch vergleichsweise harmlos: die geschulte Bibliothekarin oder der Bibliothekar schließt dann zumeist folgerichtig auf einen Fehler in den Katalogangaben oder- selbstkritisch - auf einen Fehler in der eigenen Suchstrategie. Verheerend ist die Folge allerdings für die zumeist ungeschulten Leserinnen und Leser: sie schließen häufig fälschlicherweise auf eine Lücke oder Defizienz im Bibliotheksbestand. Ich werde lediglich für einen Teilbereich des gesamten Notenrecherche-Problemkomplexes, den gänzlich zu umreissen hier zu weit führen würde, versuchen darzustellen, (1) mit welchen Schwierigkeiten schon einfachste Nominal-Recherchen verbunden sind und welche Auswirkungen diese Probleme in den Treffermengen zeitigen und (2) welche Lösungsansätze sinnvoll und wünschenswert erscheinen.
