Abstract
Gunter Dueck hat nun ein Buch geschrieben, das endlich klärt, warum es denn in vielen Unternehmen, in anderen großen Organisationen, im Wirtschaftsleben, in der Beziehung zwischen Unternehmen und Kunden sowie zwischen Management und Mitarbeitern so zum Verzweifeln absurd zugeht. Das Buch ist unglaublich vielschichtig und spannend, aber zwei Punkte möchte ich doch besonders hervorheben: zum einen ist es ein leidenschaftliches Buch. Hier schreibt jemand, der an den Absurditäten schier verzweifelte bis er die Ursachen erkannte - es ist also das genaue Gegenteil eines Buches, wie man es von einem mathematischen Autor erwartet, und deshalb ein aufregendes Buch, denn es zwingt auch zur eigenen Stellungnahme. Und zum anderen ist es ein Buch, das nicht Bilder aus der Welt benutzt, um Mathematik zu erläutern, sondern Bilder aus der Mathematik, genauer der heuristischen Optimierung, um menschliches Verhalten zu erläutern. Ich will hier keine Inhaltsangabe versuchen, aber doch wenigstens den Titel erläutern. Wild Duck, Wildente. Dies geht zurück auf den Dänen Kierkegaard, der Wildenten in Kopenhagen beobachtete, die dort überwinterten und von den Parkbesuchern gefüttert wurden. In einem strengen Hungerwinter wurden sie nicht mehr gefüttert und verhungerten, sie erinnerten sich nicht mehr an ihre Wildentenfähigkeiten, nach Süden zu ziehen. Kierkegaard schloss daraus, dass einmal domestizierte Wildenten nie mehr ferne Ziele anfliegen. Diese Geschichte veranlasste Thomas Watson Jr., den langjährigen Chef der IBM, zu der Aussage: "We need some wild ducks in our company!" Eben Leute, die zu wirklichen Innovationen fähig sind und nicht, zur Version 7.20 des immer gleichen Produkts! Später wurde diese Firmenphilosophie dann abgewandelt zu: "We tolerate wild ducks in our company - as long as they fly in formation!" Das Buch erzählt viel über solche Wildenten, es erzählt auch, warum die Erbsenzähler, Buchhalter und Beamten die Herrschaft über die Welt erlangen konnten, und warum ihre Verliebtheit in Messsysteme und Ordnungskriterien zahlreiche Unternehmungen in den Abgrund und viele kreative Schulkinder in die Verzweiflung geführt haben. Es geht also u.a. darum, wie wir mit den Wildenten, den Innovatoren, umgehen, wie wir diese anderen Menschen tolerieren, wieso Firmen immer wieder versuchen, Menschen zu messen und durch mathematische Zielfunktionen zu steuern, wie die tayloristischen Managementsysteme versuchten, uns die Verschiedenheit abzugewöhnen und uns zu gehorsamen, gleichen Zahnrädern in der Industrienorm machen wollten. Das Buch macht uns Hoffnung, dass die Computer vielleicht bald so gut werden, dass sie uns wieder in unserer Verschiedenheit leben lassen. Und so ganz nebenbei können Sie noch lernen, warum den Mathematikern die Zukunft gehört, warum der Typ Mensch, der Mathematik studiert, wahrscheinlich viel öfter dem Mitarbeiterprofil der New Economy, des E-Business entspricht, als dies bei der alten Wirtschaft, der Fall war
