Abstract

Das menschliche Gehirn - eine ehemisch-elektrische gesteuerte Maschine? Einfachste Bewegungsabläufe genügen, um unser Gehirn in komplexe chemische und elektrische Aktivität zu versetzen, dennoch erwägt die Forschung die Möglichkeit, daß das Gehirn des Menschen auf der molekularen Ebene ähnlich funktioniert wie das einer Schnecke. "Geheimnisse des menschlichen Gehirns" stellt die Geschichte des Menschen auf der Suche, die Zusammenhange von Denken, Fühlen und Handeln zu durchschauen, dar. Es zeigt, daß die "grauen Zellen" nicht nur Bewegungsabläufe, Wahrnehmungs-, Reaktions- und Handlungsfähigkeit beeinflussen, sondern Gefühle und Träume auslösen können, wie Wut, Liebe, Niedergeschlagenheit oder große Ideen und Hoffnungen. Richard Restak untersucht die herausfordernden Entdeckungen der Gehirnforschung, zum Beispiel die unterschiedlichen Funktionen der rechten Und linken Hirnhälfte. Neueste Experimente demonstrieren, daß der Berufsmusiker Musik vollkommen anders verarbeitet als der "Normalverbraucher"; sie zeigen, welchen Einfluß der Arbeitsplatz oder auch Zyklen und Rhythmen wie Tag und Nacht, die Jahreszeiten oder die Schwerkraft auf den Menschen ausüben kann.
