Abstract
Der Marburger Philosoph Peter Janich besprach am 16. Juni in der F.A.Z. das neueste Buch des Frankfurter Hirnforschers Wolf Singer. Janich hielt Singer vor, er missverstehe nicht so sehr den Menschen als vielmehr die Naturwissenschaften vom Menschen, wenn er sie als Ausfluss von Hirnfunktionen beschreibe. Wissenschaftliche Sätze könnten wahr und falsch sein, Naturvorgänge nicht. Ein Experiment setze daher ein normatives Sprachspiel voraus, das sich auf Naturtatsachen nicht zurückführen lasse. "Nicht Hirne erforschen Hirne durch bloße neuronale Aktivität, sondern da muss in die Welt der Dinge mit Händen eingegriffen werden, und zwar nach Regeln." Janichs Besprechung hat Singer zu einem Brief provoziert, den wir mit Janichs Antwort veröffentlichen.

Singer: Die Beweislast liegt bei Ihnen! Der Hirnforscher Wolf Singer ist des Argumentierens müde. Wenn der Philosoph Peter Janich immer noch Zweifel habe, dass die Hirnforschung die menschliche Geistestätigkeit restlos erklären könne, dann solle er doch in sein Labor kommen. Er würde ihn dann im Selbstexperiment schon davon überzeugen. Janich: Ich lasse mich nicht in den Tomographen schieben! Der Philosoph Peter Janich widerspricht Singers These, dass der menschliche Geist sich durch die Gehirnforschung restlos erfassen lasse. Und er widersetzt sich Singers Aufforderung, sich im Selbstexperiment davon zu überzeugen. Ein solches Experiment könne nichts beweisen außer Singers moralische Bedenkenlosigkeit.
