Abstract

Der Beitrag vergleicht das VD 16 als retrospektive Nationalbibliographie mit vergleichbaren europäischen Angeboten, stellt die Datenbank in ihrem Berichtsumfang und den Redaktionsgrundsätzen vor und wirbt um die Zulieferung neuer Titel sowie die weite Verbreitung der VD16-Nummer als Normnummer. Dabei kommt den auf dem VD i6 aufsetzenden Digitalisierungsprojekten eine entscheidende Rolle zu. Die groß angelegten VD16-Digitalisierungsprojekte der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek werden in ihren Erschließungsaspekten und deren Auswirkungen auf den Nachweis der Digitalisate beschrieben, darüber hinaus wird die Rolle des VD i6 für eine koordinierte Digitalisierung der im deutschen Sprachbereich erschienenen Drucke des 16. Jahrhunderts dargestellt.
