Abstract

Library information systems today attempt to add value to services redered by seeking to enhance public facilities at the lowest cost possible with the greatest effectiveness. Provides a historical overview of major milestones in the information technology indistry and describes the functionality of such devices as central processing units. Indicates the emergence of standards and explains open systems. Discusses the resources available within the government sector South Africa for use by the public and gives insight into some of the mysteries surrounding computers, networks, communications, and protocols and procedures for the public library and its infrastructure
