Abstract
Die Zuschreibung wissenschaftlicher Qualität zu Veröffentlichungen ist klassischerweise eng mit Begutachtungsprozessen verbunden, mit deren Durchführung im Vorfeld der eigentlichen Publikation ein Mindestmaß an Qualität gesichert werden soll. Auch wenn diese so genannten PeerReview-Verfahren seit Jahrzehnten Gegenstand teils grundsätzlicher Kritik sind, bildet dieser Ansatz in den Augen der meisten Wissenschaftler noch immer das Mittel der Wahl für eine effektive Qualitätssicherung. Er ist vor allem für wissenschaftliche Zeitschriften etabliert, seine konkrete Ausgestaltung trägt erheblich zum Renommee der jeweiligen Publikation bei. Währenddessen stehen die stets an Bedeutung gewinnenden Open-Access-Zeitschriften unter dem Verdacht, geringere Qualitätsmaßstäbe anzusetzen und Artikel zu publizieren, die zuvor keine oder eine weniger strenge Kontrolle durchlaufen haben. Der Beitrag stellt eine umfassende Studie vor, in der die Peer-Review-Verfahren von weltweit mehr als 1.200 wissenschafrlichen Open-Access-Zeitschriften untersucht und miteinander verglichen wurden. Die Ergebnisse verdeutlichen, dass die meisten Open-Access-Zeitschriften tatsächlich PeerReview-Verfahren einsetzen, und legen außerdem nahe, dass eine große Bandbreite unterschiedlicher Verfahren und Eigenschaften von Peer Review existieren - etwa die gegenseitige Anonymität von Autoren und Gutachtern, der Informationsfluss, das Verfahren zur Auswahl der Gutachter und formale Regelungen in Bezug auf mögliche Interessenkonflikte. Dabei hängt das Aussehen eities konkreten Peer-Review-Verfahrens wesentlich von dem Wissenschaftsgebiet und der Art des Verlegers der betreffenden Zeirschrifr ab. Die Studie zeichnet ein vielfältiges Bild und zeigt, class die wissenschaftliche Qualirät der veröffentlichten Beiträge insbesondere auch für Open-Access-Zeitschriften ein bestimmendes Thema ist.
