Abstract

Describes the current state and likely future derictions of CWIS developments in the UK. Considers alternative models for CWIS architectures, concentrating on the client-server approach. Discusses the protocols which may be used to support this model including X.500, Search and Retrieve, Z39.50 and WAIS. Examines how the client-server approach can support access to an information base which is distributed across campus and in due course between campuses. Discusses standards for information provision
