Abstract
Der Band stellt verschiedene formale syntaktische Beschreibungssprachen und auf ihnen basierende Syntaxtheorien dar, die in neuerer Zeit entwickelt wurden und die Linguistik entscheidend beeinflußt haben. Behandelt werden die IC-Analyse, Phrasenstruktur- und Konstitutionsgrammatiken, generative Transformationsgrammatik, Depedenzgrammatik, funktionale und kategoriale Grammatik. Dabei zeigt sich, wie die neueren Theorien traditionelle Probleme der Grammatik aufgreifen, weiterentwickeln und zu welchen Ergebnissen sie kommen. Die Lösungsvorschläge der einzelnen Theorien werden beurteilt nach ihrer Relevanz für die thematischen Zusammenhänge, in denen sie stehen, nach ihrer Relevanz für andere Theorien und in ihrem Zusammenhang mit Nachbardisziplinen der Linguistik
